Meadowsweet
It acquired the name bridewort because it was strewn on the ground at ‘handfastings', pagan-type weddings, for the bride to walk on, and also for its use in posies and bridal bouquets.
According to Irish Legend, it was the land goddess of Munster, Áine, who gave meadowsweet its fragrance. Cúchulainn was supposedly given the plant in liquid form to help calm his fits of rage and fever, a possible explanation for one of its Irsih names, Crios Conchulainn (Cúchaliann's Belt).

And Meadowsweet, the chosen of them all
By wandering children, yellow as the cream
Of those great cows--winds on as in a dream
By mill and footbridge, hamlet old and small

Trod out its perfume from the Meadowsweet,
Strown like a woman's love beneath his feet,
In stately dance or jovial banqueting,

This new book
is a triple tale about how three women from three different times in medieval Ireland, write and pass on stories that they remember.

Isolde, daughter of Queen Iseult of Dunlace Castle in late 600AD begins the tale.  She is the bridge who keeps alive secrets of the Tuatha de Danaan.
Aine, Isolde’s daughter has possession of the book that Isolde scribes. In Aine’s book, she captures some of the ways these faeries interact with legendary characters of the early centuries.
Finally, there was Maire mac Domneill, daughter of a High King of Northern Ireland. She writes of
pain and romance when legendary heros and heroines become involved with the spirit world.

Aine
Aine was the ancient sovereignty Goddess of the province of Munster in South West Ireland. Cnoc Aine, in Knockainey, Co. Limerick is sacred to Her. This hill was once the most powerful, royal ceremonial center of Munster. In ancient times, the ritual marriage between King and Goddess was performed here, thus legitimizing his kingship.
As a Moon Goddess and a Fertility Goddess she ruled over and protected both crops and animals. She is also known as Goddess of Water and Healing.
At Midsummer celebrations (June 23, St. John’s Eve) people honored Aine and Her sacred fire. The men lit torches on the top of her hill, Cnoc Aine, and then ran down through their cattle and fields asking Her blessings for an abundant harvest. It was believed that at the same time Aine and the fairies of Her sidhe undertook a similar procession in the Otherworld.
